Starting June 24 & June 26 – Central Memoir Writing Workshops- Day & Evening Classes

Kick Start Your Memoir - Skeletons & Dirty Linen

Week 1. Learning to let go

Using examples and exercises, you will discover how to let go of your natural inhibitions so you can free yourself to write creatively.

Week 2. Marinate your head with research

Information gathering can be both exciting and rewarding, and the more you discover, the richer your story will be.  You will find how to maximise your research skills using specific techniques and resources.

Week 3.  Use detail to tell it how it really was

Every scene should say ‘it happened like this’ instead  ‘this is what happened.’ At any given moment our lives are determined by a myriad influences. ‘Am I feeling hot; are my feet aching; am I in a hurry; what am I hoping for; or what have I just lost?’

Week 4. Looking from the outside

The structure of any memoir writing project revolves around pivotal turning points linking the present to its past and future. Discover how to find the beginning, middle and end of your chapters as well as your story.

  • Hi Eileen

Can you tell me where your June workshops will be held? I live in Sydney and have a blog ‘The Good the Bad and the Italian’ which I all ‘food memoir’. Interested in getting some new inspiration …

  • Hi Ambra

I hold the workshops at my home in Ourimbah which is 4o minutes from the F3 turnoff at Wahroonga. I don’t know if you have started your memoir but I also hold one-day advanced workshops on Sundays , the next one is on July 14. I’ll be posting the details of the one-day workshop in a couple of days. I provide lunch with the Sunday workshops. Last time I served Syrian Chicken with a Roasted Cauliflower & Hazelnut salad. Does that tempt you?

    Let me know
    Eileen

    • Very tempting Eileen – the lunch, that is. Unfortunately I’m one of those strange non-driving people so don’t know how I’d get to your place. Usually happy to catch public transport, but sounds like you’re not on the train line. If I can ever rope a friend into coming, I’d love to attend. Will be in touch.
